The Big Creek hydro electric project was begun back in 1910, at a time when the region's remote mountain canyons were virtually inaccessible. To move the thousands of men and tons on supplies to the remote construction sites, a railroad and connecting network on roads first had to be built. The power plants that arose along the rushing mountain streams were marvel of technology and giants of their era.
